CHICAGO, IL – A concerning incident on Chicago’s South Side has spotlighted the perilous paths some youths are taking, as a 13-year-old girl was shot as her and a 14-year-old boy were attempting to steal an SUV. The shooting occurred around 7:49 a.m. on Tuesday in the 8200-block of South Commercial Avenue, according to Chicago Police.
Reports from the scene indicate that the teenagers were confronted by the vehicle’s owner, a woman who fired her gun at the youths as they tried to take her SUV. The 13-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of her body and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Both the girl and the 14-year-old boy have been charged with attempted theft in connection with the incident. This event raises significant concerns about the involvement of children in criminal activities and the circumstances that lead to such desperate actions.
