Son-in-Law Shoots Unknown Man Loitering on His Mother-in-Law’s Front Porch

Date:

WAGONER COUNTY, OK – In the early hours of last Saturday, a 74-year-old woman living alone in the Whitehorn Cove area, roughly 11 miles north of Wagoner, noticed an unexpected visitor on her property through her security cameras. Concerned by the sight of a man she did not recognize loitering on her front porch, she alerted her son-in-law, who resides next door.

Sheriff Chris Elliott explained to News on 6 that the son-in-law, upon arriving at the scene armed, confronted the stranger. The situation escalated into an altercation, resulting in the son-in-law shooting the intruder twice. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the man are not life-threatening, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The motive behind the man’s presence on the property remains unclear, prompting further investigation by the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Elliott indicated, “We have a lot of data to look at. We have people to interview, but at this time we are not effecting arrest.” The investigation will include reviewing the surveillance footage from the home to gain a clearer understanding of the incident.

It is believed that the man who was shot resides in the same area of Wagoner County. As the community awaits more details, the incident underscores the unpredictability homeowners may face and the importance of preparedness in such situations.
