Missouri Homeowner Fatally Shoots Intruder Who Prayed to Horse, Attacked Dog, and Tried to Break In

DEARBORN, MO — A homeowner in Dearborn, Missouri, fatally shot a man after the intruder displayed erratic behavior and attempted to break into the residence. The incident occurred on the morning of September 18, 2024, in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive.

According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious individual outside a private residence around 9:00 a.m. The homeowner had observed the man, who was described as a partially clothed white male, approximately 30 to 40 years old. The man was behaving strangely, including praying to a horse and attacking the homeowner’s dog.

When the individual attempted to forcibly enter the residence, the homeowner discharged a firearm, fatally shooting the man at the entrance of the home. Deputies found the man deceased upon arrival. His identity has not yet been determined.

As a precautionary measure, the North Platte School District was placed on lockdown for about an hour. The lockdown has since been lifted, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

This case highlights the importance of being prepared to defend oneself and loved ones from an immediate threat. Homeowners must ensure they are familiar with local laws regarding self-defense, and it’s crucial to act only when there is a clear and imminent danger to life or serious bodily harm.
