Federal regulators last week announced a recall of peperoncini — yellow-green pickled chili peppers — after a customer posted a video showing her unexpectedly discovering what appeared to be a dead mouse inside her jar.

The notice, issued by G.L. Mezzetta Inc., impacts one lot of Mezzetta Brand Golden Greek Peperoncini.

“We’re aware of a video circulating on social media showing a potential pest contaminant in a jar of Mezzetta GOLDEN GREEK PEPERONCINI MEDIUM HEAT, 32-ounce,” the recall notice said.

The video first surfaced Sept. 16, when a woman said she noticed the mouse while preparing the peperoncini for dinner.

“There’s a dead baby mouse in my peperoncinis,” she said in the video while holding up the jar.

“Found out after I already licked my fingers,” she said.

The company said it has contacted the consumers who purchased products from the same batch and is “working directly with them to isolate and remove the affected product from sale.”
