As the world has become less stable, many people have made the decision to learn how to protect themselves. First-time firearm owners number in the millions. These millions include legions of women, who through their interest in defense, have also found a love of shooting as a sport. Thankfully, the industry is catching up, creating products specifically designed for women. Long gone are the days of coloring a man’s product with pink camouflage. Beretta, who currently employs six women on their pro team, is doing its part to make sure that our female shooters are comfortable and confident in their threads. Beretta recently sent me a box of gear, all from their Ladies Gear Collection. I don’t have the required figure to fill out the clothes, so I’ve called on my wife to give us her thoughts.
Centre Combat Jacket
The Centre Combat Jacket uses different fabrics to make sure you have protection where you need it, and flexibility when you need it. The shoulders and sleeves use two-way stretch ripstop fabric, much like a raid shirt, while the body is made from softshell material. The sleeves also house hidden ventilation sections to keep you cool, and the elbows have elbow pad compartments.
The collar is lined with fleece to make it more comfortable. The sleeves use Velcro closures for a better fit around your wrists, and the shoulders are padded for added comfort when wearing a plate carrier. The Centre Combat Jacket is available in Black or Green Stone and costs $199.
This jacket is durable, and fitted, and happens to be my second favorite clothing item from Beretta. The Combat Jacket is a well-structured jacket that has so many details that I love. There are Velcro slits on the elbows to insert elbow pads, Velcro on the left sleeve to add your favorite patch, and adjustable Velcro cuffs.
Hook RipTech Pants
The Hook RipTech Pants are primarily made of ripstop material. The inside of the waistband uses elastic to fit a variety of body types and shapes, while the articulated knees allow for freer movement. The knees are also compatible with kneepad inserts. Inside the main hand pockets are hidden compartments for ChapStik or similarly sized items. There’s a reinforced knife pocket and the belt loops are reinforced, as well. I do wish the belt loops were wider, but what’s there is robust and plenty usable. They’re available in Black, Blue Total Eclipse, Green Stone, and Ebony. The price per pair is $129.
After having a baby, it was really hard finding time for the gym to lose the postpartum mom pooch. Finding pants has been a struggle, especially when it comes to range pants. Most of them are super rigid and narrow through the hips. These hook pants are now my go-to range pants. They’re a lightweight cotton that feels like you’re not wearing anything at all (Stupid, sexy Flanders). Most importantly, they have elastic in the waistband which makes their fit forgiving, easy, and comfortable. As I was pulling them up, about to button them, I worried that they would be tight. Instead, the elastic stretched just enough to allow me to fasten them, then retracted into place to give me the perfect fit! These pants have so many pockets and loops to carry whatever you possibly could need. There are also pockets in the knees to put knee pads when you need to get down and dirty.
Not every woman is the same. We have our peaks and valleys and it’s wonderful to see a brand that is finally catering to our bodies.
The LeSaut Sweater is a multi-purpose item. It can be used as a base layer or be worn on its own. The material is a four-way stretch fabric. The sleeves and bottom hem of the…body hole(?) are finished with a microband fabric. It’s available in Green Camo or Black Camouflage.
[The sweater] is stretchy, lightweight, soft, versatile, and trendy. I wore it out the other day with a pair of jeans, heels, and some earrings and got compliments. I love that you can either wear it out, as I did, or use it as a layer in colder climates.
Ciel Tech Long Sleeve T-Shirt
The Ciel Tech Long Sleeve T-Shirt can be used as a base layer, or as a sunshirt for long days in the sun. My writing partner recently used it at an all-day Performace Pistol course with Raven Wing. There are mesh inserts under the arms and on the back, increasing breathability. The shirt is made from polypropylene, which doesn’t absorb moisture. The fabric also has UV protection properties, as well as odor and insect control. It’s available in Pale Blue, Blue Total Eclipse, Fern, Black, and White. This long sleeve T will run you $65.
Being fair skinned, I burn VERY easily and get overheated quickly! This shirt is UV protective and it has breathable mesh under the armpits to keep you cool. It’s perfect for those hot days on the range under the Colorado sun.
The Ranger T-shirt is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a T-shirt! The fabric is a 52% cotton and 48% polyester blend. True to the mission of the Beretta Ladies Gear Collection, the bottom hem is curved to better define the female form. The added length could also be beneficial to those who carry a concealed firearm. It’s available in Heather Military, Black, White, Steel Blue Heather, and Heather Grey. You can pick one up for $39.
If you hate tags as much as my husband then you’ll love the ranger t-shirt. It’s tag-less, buttery soft, and has cute deigns that come in different colors. I’ll probably live in this t-shirt!
Gravite Windblock Vest
The Gravite Windblock Vest accomplishes its wind resistance by using hard-faced softshell material, taking the best qualities from both soft and hardshell fabric. The armholes and side panels are stretchy, making it easier to take on and off. Inside the left pocket, there’s an attached microfiber cleaning cloth. The vest is made from polyester and treated with a DWR coating for water resistance. Available colors include Green Stone, Ebony, Blue Total Eclipse, and Black. The price tag on the Gravite reads $99.
I’m not particularly a vest person, but it was super nice to have this to throw on over a shirt during our random windy Colorado days. It’s lightweight and breathable.
VisEle Tech Leggings
These leggings are made from Lycra, which is a four-way stretch synthetic material. It uses a high waist for improved fit and comfort and features mesh side pockets. Currently, they’re only available in Black and cost $119.
These leggings are made of a thick sturdy material with a wide waistband to hold everything in. I love the side pockets to hold my keys or phone. They’re perfect for wearing as is to go hiking, working out, or to the range. Or you can wear these as a layer in the colder months.
Hook Notch Trucker Cap
This hat is made specifically for women and features a slot between the two back panels. This is made so you can pull your ponytail through. The notches are in place to remedy the issues that come from wearing shooting glasses with your hat. Beretta worked together with Notch to develop the Hook Notch Trucker Cap. You can grab one of these for $45 and can be had in Grey, Green, or Black.
The Trucker Cap has won a place in my hat rotation. I love how comfortable it is and I love that I have a place to keep my hair out of way.
The Beretta Ladies Gear Collection
Overall, my thoughts don’t matter. These clothes weren’t created for me. I will say that the quality level is high, and I’m honestly a little jealous of my wife. If the jacket was cut for me, I’d 100% steal it from her. It makes me happy to see companies continue to develop more gear for women that respects what they are capable of and doesn’t treat them like an afterthought.
I was really impressed with the entire Beretta Women’s line. The quality, attention to detail, and functionality of each piece shows that they successfully filled the gap for women in the firearms community.
If you want to read more about any of these pieces from the Beretta Ladies Gear Collection, head to the Beretta website. If you’d like to see more from Beretta, find them on social media.
