Smith & Wesson Model 1854: The Original Lever-Gun Reborn!

Smith & Wesson makes some major industry news today, tapping into its illustrious history along with the pulse of the modern American hunter and shooter. Paying homage to its earliest of days, the Smith & Wesson Model 1854 introduces the first modern lever-action carbine under the S&W banner.

Paying homage to the Volcanic Pistol, widely regarded as the first working lever-action design, the S&W Model 1854 brings a modern lever-action to Smith & Wesson. It becomes “the first to incorporate the feel of Smith & Wesson’s revered large-frame revolvers, their smooth action, and iconic craftsmanship,” according to S&W. At first glance, we sure think they’re onto something.

“Today, as we proudly unveil the Model 1854 Series, we embark on a journey that pays homage to this timeless design. Meticulously crafted, these rifles fuse the classic craftsmanship of the iconic lever-action with modern engineering to deliver a platform built on reliability and performance. Our new Model 1854 rifles are a nod to tradition and a testament to Smith & Wesson’s legacy as an American firearms manufacturer,” said Mark Smith, President & CEO.

Model 1854 Series carbines feature 19 1/4-inch barrels chambered in .44 Rem Mag. The rifle delivers a 9+1 overall capacity. A blend of classic aesthetics and modern components, the 1854 pairs a black synthetic stock and forend with a stainless steel metal finish metal parts. M-LOK slots in the forend provide a surface for attaching accessories. The carbine includes a 4 3/4-inch Picatinny base, large loop lever and flat-face trigger. A side loading gate, side ejection and removable mag tube round out the package.

Model 1854 Limited Series

While this carbine shares most of the basic feature set, it stands apart with a classic high-grade satin walnut finish on the stock and forend. A polished black PVD finish on the receive and barrel add to the classic look.

All Model 1854 Series carbines feature an overall length of 36 inches. They come with a 11/16-24 threaded muzzle and an XS Sights adjustable ghost ring rear and gold bead front sight.
