COLUMBUS, GEORGIA — The suspect of a home invasion in Troup County remains hospitalized after his attempt was foiled by an armed homeowner.

The suspect forced his way into a home on Ginger Circle, in the Young Acres subdivision. The incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday, September 28th. In a statement by Troup County Sheriff’s Sgt. Stewart, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Chadwick Lyons, forced his way into the residence. Sgt. Smith said the female homeowner, who also had two children at the home, heard the suspect inside her residence. The homeowner fired one round at Lyons, who was struck in the abdomen.

Lyons fled the location and ran to a neighboring house and asked the occupants for help. Sgt. Smith stated that the 911 call to Troup County indicated that a man, who had been shot, was at the caller’s residence. The caller was unaware of the circumstances surrounding Lyons’ injury.

Lyons had broken into at least four vehicles prior to his home invasion attempt. Sgt. Smith reiterated the right of persons to be lawfully armed on their person, in their vehicle and in their home as well as the right to defend one’s self. A neighbor of the homeowner, Rachel Kramer, stated she would do the same thing in the same situation.
