Date:

BINGHAM COUNTY, ID -In an extraordinary display of courage and survival, an 85-year-old Idaho woman, Christine Jenneiahn, defended herself during a home invasion, resulting in the fatal shooting of the intruder, Derek Condon. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 13, 2024, has been thoroughly reviewed and ruled as justifiable homicide by the local prosecutor, underscoring a significant case of self-defense under Idaho law.

Christine Jenneiahn was asleep in her Bingham County home when she was awakened by Condon, who had broken in wearing a ski mask and armed with a gun. After a physical assault, Condon handcuffed Jenneiahn and demanded valuables. Despite her attempts to comply, Condon’s threats escalated, prompting Jenneiahn to take decisive action to protect herself and her disabled son, also present in the home.

Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Jenneiahn managed to retrieve her .357 Magnum revolver while handcuffed, ultimately using it to shoot Condon when he threatened her life again. Condon returned fire, severely injuring Jenneiahn, but succumbed to his wounds shortly after.

For approximately ten hours, Jenneiahn, still handcuffed and wounded, awaited help until she could call 911 with assistance from her son. Her actions during this harrowing encounter highlight an incredible will to survive against overwhelming odds.

The prosecutor’s review of the case cited Idaho’s clear self-defense laws, which support an individual’s right to protect themselves and their family without the need to retreat. The analysis concluded that all conditions for justifiable homicide were met, considering Condon’s violent actions and threats during the invasion.

This case not only emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s rights to self-defense but also showcases the extraordinary bravery of Christine Jenneiahn. Her ability to defend herself under such dire circumstances serves as a powerful example of resilience and determination. The community and law enforcement have expressed their admiration for Jenneiahn’s actions, recognizing her as an example of heroism and a survivor’s spirit.

As Jenneiahn continues her recovery, her story remains a poignant reminder of the right and ability of individuals to protect themselves and their loved ones, even in the face of imminent danger.
